Celebrating National Intern Day

This summer, Norris Design hosted 9 interns throughout our nine office locations. In celebration of National Intern Day, we’re sharing a little bit about each of them!

Anissa Cantu

Attends Texas Tech University and is interning in Denver

What is your favorite flower or plant?

My favorite plant is the Texas Sage!

What has been your favorite part about your internship?

My favorite part about this internship has been collaborating with my various project teams. I’ve learned so much from working closely with so many people. I’ve particularly enjoyed working through park design and grading, especially in a state with complex terrain!

Dan Schwab

Attends the University of Arizona and is interning in Tucson

What is your favorite food?

Caesar Salad with anchovies

What has been your favorite part about your internship?

Incredible mentorship and the opportunity to learn from a variety of highly knowledgeable people across a variety of skill sets. I’m thoroughly enjoying everything I’ve worked on, but getting the opportunity to design a local park and understanding what stakeholders value and why.

Garland Ledbetter

Attends Utah State University and is interning in Austin

What is one of your favorite vacations or trips you’ve been on?

A favorite vacation I have been on was a week long road trip all over Italy with some of my closest friends!

What has been your favorite part about your internship?

I have loved getting to experience day-to-day life of a Landscape Architect, touching on a wide scope of projects in all different stages, and deliverables. I enjoyed getting to work on a pool courtyard in Austin and a lotting plan for a project in Denver.

Jordan Clugston

Attends Colorado State University and is interning in Fort Collins

What is your favorite food?

Any kind of fruit, especially strawberries and blackberries!

What has been your favorite part about your internship?

My favorite part about this internship has been all the amazing people I have met so far and having the opportunity to collaborate with them on projects. I have learned so much from just seeing what different ideas everyone brings to the table. One project I am very excited about is a parklet design at our Fort Collins office that is scheduled to be installed for a day at the beginning of August.

Katie Hagevik

Attends the University of Wisconsin and is interning in Denver

Where would you love to travel?

Some current travel places on my bucket list are Portugal, especially Madeira as well as all of Croatia. 

What has been your favorite part about your internship?

I have really enjoyed working on developing my hand drawing skills as well as getting more comfortable with different computer programs. My favorite part so far has been working with so many different people and how helpful and friendly they are (also the sweet treats in breakout meetings). 

Taylor Wilbanks

Attends Texas Tech University and is interning in Denver

What is your hidden talent?

In my spare time I really enjoy painting. I wouldn’t say I’m crazy good but its always been something I enjoy.

What has been your favorite part about your internship?

I loved working in a bigger office and getting to know everyone. The willingness of my colleagues to help made me feel comfortable throughout my internship. I particularly enjoyed working on larger master plan communities, where I learned a great deal about the process of getting submittals out the door and all the other aspects involved in managing large-scale projects.

Tommy Chambers

Attends the University of Georgia and is interning in Phoenix

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

It’s a bit silly, but I remember in 5th grade we were asked that question and I had written down a “Lego Designer”. Designing the build sets and statues they put up in stores.

What has been your favorite part about your internship?

I have found planting design to be a fun challenge. Being from the east coast the Arizona pallet is a big change, and learning the differences has been fun. There are aspects I plan to bring back east next semester.

Zoe Spears

Attends Texas Tech University and is interning in Denver

What is one of your favorite vacations or trips you’ve been on?

One of my favorite trips was to Jackson Hole, WY. I went to Yellowstone and also went horseback riding in the Tetons!

What has been your favorite part about your internship?

My favorite part about my internship so far has been all of the amazing people that I work with and the lasting friendships I’ve made!

Giselle Ashton

Attends Texas Tech University and is interning in Phoenix

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

As a child I wanted to be a ballerina. 

What has been your favorite part about your internship?

My favorite part of working for Norris Design was the office atmosphere and the relationships I built with my coworkers. I even got to celebrate my 21st birthday with them! I had the opportunity to work closely with the planning team and enjoyed learning about the entitlement process. I got to attend city council meetings, public hearings, and tag along to client meetings which were all great leaning experiences for me!
