Fort Collins Alley Renovations

Fort Collins, Colorado

The Tenney Court North and West Oak Enhancements continue the successful work of the Fort Collins Downtown Development Authority (DDA) in revitalizing the historic downtown alleys. To date, the alleys that have been enhanced have become an iconic and identifiable element of the urban fabric of Fort Collins and a precedent for communities around the country. This project builds on that legacy, creating aesthetically pleasing pedestrian corridors that enhance the economic vitality, vibrancy and uniqueness of the Fort Collins community. The design solutions for the project express the history and the unique context of each alley by translating their stories at the pedestrian scale through artistic elements, materials and character-defining features.

The West Oak alley design is inspired by former local business owner Ace Gilette and the art deco style of his hotel properties. Paving patterns and a gateway structure create interest in light, shade and shadow throughout the alley. Tenney Court North takes advantage of the large blank parking garage façade to create a wall mural inspired by Rollin Q. Tenney’s contribution to the establishment of the Roosevelt National Forest and his love of the Cache La Poudre River Canyon.
