The Eagle River Preserve is a 75-acre gravel mine that was converted into an open space park for Eagle County. A system of hiking trails and a regional bike trail meander through the property. As part of the reclamation and enhancement of the site, a stream, pond and wetlands were created that funnel ditch water and stormwater runoff. Native wetland, riparian and upland plants that thrive in a mountain environment were selected to improve aesthetics, water quality and wildlife habitat.
