Sizzling new details are coming to light on the mouthwatering expansion plans of one of Texas’ favorite barbecue joints. Salt Lick BBQ’s upcoming Fredericksburg location now includes plans for a $2.4 million wine tasting venue and restaurant, according to a new state filing registered on January 27 with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

Salt Lick Cellars will add an additional 5,913 square feet of space to its Salt Lick BBQ that will be a part of The Sycamore, a 117-acre mixed-use lifestyle development off of U.S. 290 and Luckenbach Road in Fredericksburg. The beloved barbecue spot is known for its Texas-style meats, cooked family-style over a large open pit, with world-famous sauces and rubs.

Also registered on January 27, are plans for Sombra at Sycamore, a restaurant coming to the same address at 350 Luckenbach Road, Fredericksburg, TX 78217. Though details are limited, the $3 million venue is on the same construction timeline as Salt Lick Cellars.

Salt Lick Cellars is not a new concept for the legendary Texas barbecue chain. The company operates another winery and vineyard under the same name next to their flagship location in Driftwood, about 25 miles southwest of Austin.

Construction on the new Salt Lick Cellars will begin in May 2026 and wrap up in September 2027, according to the filing. Filings are subject to change.

The Sycamore broke ground in 2023. The mixed-use retail and lifestyle project was expected to open in 2025, though construction plans are still being filed. It is among a host of other shopping and lifestyle developments and tourist-friendly upgrades coming to Fredericksburg in the next few years. Construction on the 9,323-square-foot Salt Lick location in Fredericksburg began in September 2025 and is expected to wrap up in October 2026.

Salt Lick also has locations in Driftwood, Round Rock and the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.
