Norris Design Attends APA Colorado Conference
Late last month, a group from Norris Design (ND) attended the American Planning Association (APA) Colorado Conference in Vail. In addition to attending conference sessions, team members met with some of the conference’s 530+ attendees at our booth in the exhibition hall.
During the awards breakfast on Thursday morning, our team was recognized with an APA Colorado Merit Award for Sustainability and Environmental Planning for Alta Verde. This multi-phase, net-zero affordable housing project will provide much-needed workforce housing to Breckenridge. The development was funded by a 9% Low-income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) award from Colorado Housing and Finance Authority (CHFA). The award was accepted by ND Principal Elena Scott and Gorman & Company Market President Kimball Crangle.
On Friday morning, ND Principal Bill Mahar and Project Manager Savanah Benedick-Welch presented a discussion on fostering healthy communities through partnerships, policies and placemaking. Liz Young-Winne from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) joined the pair to provide perspectives from both the public and private sectors.
The conference was a great opportunity to stay connected with both hot topics in planning and other planners in Colorado. I left feeling proud to be a planner! It’s refreshing to see so much great work happening in both the public and private sector relating to equity, sustainability, livability and community health — Savanah Benedick-Welch, Project Manager
