Plaza Centro and the Cadence received a Common Ground Award
in the Planning, Design and Construction category from the Metropolitan Pima Alliance
on Friday December 6, 2013.
The new eastern gateway for Downtown Tucson is Plaza Centro anchored by The Cadence, a University of Arizona affiliated student housing project with two multi-story buildings integrating the 456-bed Cadence student housing complex and 19,000 square feet of commercial space. The initial collaboration between the City of Tucson, OasisTucson and Parkwise paved the way to initiate the development. The development team and TDOT collaborated to refine the 4th Ave Underpass improvements serving as a critical step in the development process. The UA solicitation for student housing projects along the modern streetcar was a significant in identifying the development partner, Capstone. Finally, the collaboration with the Tucson Economic Development team and Mayor and Council on the GPLET process completes a mutually beneficial private-public partnership. The project relied on successful collaboration with the adjacent businesses, merchants, the Downtown Tucson Partnership, the Iron Horse and Armory Park Neighborhood Associations as well as the multidisciplinary team designing and constructing the project.
